ROCKSOUND MAGAZINE

Font Cover
Rock sound uses a variety of codes and conventions on its front cover. The image used on the front cover of this magazine is a high angle shot of the band Paramore. This is so it makes the audience look like there in power, Paramore are looking up to the audience that will be buying the magazine. With Paramore been on the front cover you automatically recognise that the main story is about Paramore. You can also tell the main story is about Paramore as the headline of the magazine is " THE TRIUMPHANT RETURN OF PARAMORE THEIR INCREDIBLE STORY", which would also be the kicker of the magazine as it is talking about the bands comeback. The bands name been in big bold capital letters makes it stand out. Paramore been on the cover of rock sound represents there genre of music so the band may appeal to anyone who likes rock.  Also the image of Paramore is edited so it stands out more. Hayley Williams (the front girl) is photographed like she is jumping out at you and her mouth open like she is shouting at you to get your attention her hair colour also gets your attention because it shows that she is individual and does not follow the usual normal ways by having bright hair.  The masthead is in the background, it does not really stand out as much as other elements used on the magazine cover because what's going to be in the magazine is more important than the name. At the bottom of the magazine there is a list of bands to inform you who the magazine has information on. The splash of the magazine is bright so it catches peoples eye.

The magazine will have been produced by the company Rock sound and also the publisher has something to do with the institution in this case the publisher been Editions Freeway which is a French publisher.  Rocksound will not be the only magazine that Editions Freeway publishes, there will be many other magazines off different genres to suit different people so the publishers will get ore of  profit.

The magazine has been produced to keep people up to date on things that are going on in the rock and roll world. People will buy this cause they will be wanting to know all the band gossip, who's touring and there is also free posters what people may want.

The target audience for Rock sound magazine is obviously people who like rock music. It gives it away in the name. People would usually tend to buy this magazine if there is a band mentioned that they really  like, so they can keep up to date on them, for example i am a really big fan of Paramore so i would buy this magazine to see whats going on with the band. Also the way the band on the front dresses is a very good way of showing who the magazine is aimed for as the intended audience probably dress very similar.

The rock genre is been represented on this magazine cover. Paramore represent the rock genre very well, especially Hayley Williams. Hayley Williams represents it well by her ways of been different and individual, her hair been a symbol of that because she is always dying it bright orange, she also makes it look exciting with the way she looks so happy. The rest of the band also represent the rock genre by the way they are dressed like typical alternative rock people. The publisher Editions Freeway is also been represented.

Contents Page
Rocksound magazine includes a contents page. This page has many things on it that help readers a lot! It helps them find what they want really easily and quickly if there is only certain bits that the reader wants to read. The contents page is a quick way to get to the page you want because it has a list of the stories and gives you the page number it is on, so all you have to do is flick to that certain page number and you will have what you want. The contents page also includes images which usually relate to stories that are inside the magazine and the images also usually relate to the type of genre which in this case is rock. Down the left hand side of the page is where you can see all the page numbers along with the title on each page. All the page numbers are sectioned into four groups which are 'regulars, features, exposure and reviews'. On the right hand side of the page is where the images are located. On each image is of a band and the image has a page number which is the page where that band will be featured. Each of the images has the name of the band of the bottom. Greenday looks like they're the main story of this magazine as the image of them is the largest on the contents page. On the top right of the contents page it says rocksound, so the masthead of the magazine is also on the contents page and the colour white for the masthead is kept. It also has a headline that says 'music with attitude' which relates to the genre of the magazine and also the bands that are photographed. The splash of the page is simple. Two different shades of red are used and grey. Its not to in your face. Bold text is used to help the story lines stand out more and the group names are white bold text with a red background to help the names stand out. The date of the magazine is placed on the top left and is made big and bold and in a rock type font, it is easily noticed which is good so the reader knows how old or recent the information is that there reading. The contents page is presented neatly so it is very easy for the reader to use and understand by using all the typical conventions such as pages, numbers and features. There are no regulars included on this contents page.

The institution of Rocksound magazine is 'Editions Freeway' which is a French publisher, Rocksound are also apart of the institution.

The ideological view behind the Rocksound contents page is to make it easier and quicker for people to find what they want.

The target audience within the contents page, because of how easy and simple it is would be for teens and young adults and because of the style of the contents page also. Its not full of information and lots of information is probably something the older generation would want. Also older people don't tend to listen to the bands that are on this contents page it usually tends to be younger people.

The target audience is represented on this contents page because of the genre that the magazine is. The bands used usually seem the represent the audience because of there style. People tend to look up to there styles and try to look like them. The bands are also been represented, they are been promoted and there genre is been represented. Editions Freeway the publisher is also been represented.

Double Page Spread

Rocksound has a double page spread which is usually an interview or pages that introduce the featured/main artist of the magazine. This double page spread only has one large image which is the band Paramore and Hayley Williams stands out more than the rest of the band by her been in colour, this could be because she is answering the questions in the interview and mainly because she is the front woman of the band. The image is also photographed in a way that makes the band look bigger than the readers. There is a Masthead of the page which is "Paramore" as that is the name of the band and it stands out so you know who its about, but you would already recognise the band because of Hayley Williams. There is no pull quotes on this double page spread. There is a paragraph that is a brief description and gives you a quick insight of the interview and makes the reader want to read on and see what's going on.

Rocksound magazine is published weekly by Editions Freeway. Rocksound magazine will not be the only magazine published within the company.  They will make other magazines of different genres which are suitable for different people and that will give them more of a profit.

The ideological view of Rocksound's double page spread is to introduce the interview of the featured artist . It has to inform, persuade and lock the reader in to wanting to read more into the article. They want the audience to be interested and enjoy the article.

The target audience is for teens/young adults who like alternative rock. This article would interest Paramore fans. The image used on the double page spread always goes with the front cover of the magazine and always relates to the type of genre that the magazine is which is usually the genre for the people that read it (indie/rock). Paramore has been interviewed for the double page spread, this is because she is well known and will inspire the audience.

The double page spread represents its target audience by using images and features that relate to the genre of music. The double page spread also represents the band as the band represents the genre of music the audience likes. The artists are represented and the magazine has to make there representation good.
