EVALUATION

The task was to create a front cover for a magazine and to design a mock up contents page. My magazines masthead is the "Wyke college magazine" so you instantly know its a college magazine for Wyke. In order to complete my task I had to get a model and take images, I got my model to pose with a guitar so it goes with the main headline of my magazine "music departments rocking out". I then out of the images I had taken, chose one to edit using photoshop, to make it look like the front cover of a magazine and then needed to print it black and white onto A4 paper. I then had to do a mock up of my contents page on publisher showing where certain text and images would go.

I wanted to make my magazine so it had the model that was a rocker type of guy so it went well with the whole music department story at Wyke, and it also worked with the headline saying "music departments rocking out". So sticking to the rock theme worked really well.

The audience for my magazine is mainly the students at Wyke college or people looking to attend, it could also come in use to staff at Wyke as well. There are many different stories that come in use to different people and what will interest different people. It gives all the information on new plans, doing stuff with the music department, events and what the college can do for the reader. So the audience works well as it is suitable for students and staff as there is bits all would like to know.

I found making the cover of my magazine easy. I first looked at other college magazines to get an idea of how I should make my own look. I then planned out what my magazine cover would need. Took the images using my digital camera and then chose one to edit using adobe photoshop to create a magazine cover. I made the background for the magazine two different greens by using the gradient effect tool, put the image on and removed all the whit background so the green was shown, then put the text on and made the masthead a good size and made it gradient shade so its eye catching. I put a stroke effect around the model so it looked like there was a shadow and then got an image of a bar code off the internet to add to the magazine. The Contents page mock up was even easier to make. I went on Microsoft publisher and chose to have a blank page. I then created many text boxes with writing inside saying whether the position the text box was in was where image or text would be placed.

In conclusion, I do think my magazine cover could have been much better if I had been given more time to complete the task. I would have had more time to edit more photos and chose a magazine cover to use. I would have also been able to test different stories and get images of different things. My magazine was quite successful though, nothing seemed to go wrong, the only problem I had at first was making the background look right because before I discovered the gradient tool it was solid lime green, so i discovered something that improved it quite a bit.
